Brain-Based Coaching

Internal notes: New title is “Brain-based Coaching”. This is missing the new copyright slide. Closing slide in completed video will show how principles we embrace are reinforcing to and reinforced by Brain-based Coaching (see summary below).

Key Principles of Coaching Backed by Science

  • All activities/skills valued equally
    • Inclusion, group dynamics, zero inactivity (everyone active, involved, engaged)
  • The Court as a Positive and Safe zone
    • Calm-connect-coach, mood, contagion theory, celebration, empowerment, proactive
  • Optimal challenge, manageable/dosed-stress
    • Engage by challenging appropriately, varying the learning environment appropriately (for each athlete, by knowing them) — for example: stations, dynamic goal/result-oriented approaches
  • Structured Lessons — Lesson Plans
    • Thoughtful transitions (anticipate), “core” consistent activities from session to session (similar warmup, similar/same core skills, etc.)
  • Movement and patterned/rhymic/repetitive activity (rally) as “enablers” to open/re-open access to cortex
