Key Principles of Coaching Backed by Science
- All activities/skills valued equally
- Inclusion, group dynamics, zero inactivity (everyone active, involved, engaged)
- The Court as a Positive and Safe zone
- Calm-connect-coach, mood, contagion theory, celebration, empowerment, proactive
- Optimal challenge, manageable/dosed-stress
- Engage by challenging appropriately, varying the learning environment appropriately (for each athlete, by knowing them) — for example: stations, dynamic goal/result-oriented approaches
- Structured Lessons — Lesson Plans
- Thoughtful transitions (anticipate), “core” consistent activities from session to session (similar warmup, similar/same core skills, etc.)
- Movement and patterned/rhymic/repetitive activity (rally) as “enablers” to open/re-open access to cortex
